What’s Been Happening at RMHC Bay Area?
This all started in March of this year, can you believe it?
After March at the Stanford House
With just a handful of essential workers onsite, we moved all families to the Arrillaga building and used the time to clean and organize family areas, workspaces and storage rooms. We implemented extra safety measures to protect the families and patients, requiring masks and daily health screens. All essential team members from all departments came together to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day to families staying at Stanford. For the first four months, meals were delivered to the comfort of each family’s room but since July, we opened our dining area for a better dining experience. I am happy to let you all know that we have had zero COVID positive cases!

After March at Mission Bay
Our San Francisco House had to close temporarily from early in March to June 15th. We really understood just how serious COVID was going to be when the health department asked us to close down our Mission Bay program. We knew we’d be in it for the long haul, so we regrouped to still continue to serve the families who need us most. Since then, most staff transition to support our efforts at Stanford. And as of June 15, we returned on a much smaller scale thanks to our partnership with Charles Schwab! They chose us to be a recipient of their Pay it Forward initiative. Their café, The Fresh Fork, caters 75 daily lunches for our UCSF Mission Bay and Summit at Oakland families. They provide the free labor and packing, and we pay for the meals. We’d missed our Mission Bay families so much, so you can imagine how excited staff was to be back! We put together a video to highlight our on-going partnership with Charles Schwab and Fresh Fork so you can see how much this collaboration has helped us keep families fed.

A Note From a Thankful Family
“Thank you!
Thanks for all of the wonderful meals that you have prepared for our family. We have changed our eating habits because we are inspired by the simple fresh food that we get to enjoy for lunch at Ronald McDonald House. Thank you to everyone who takes part in the lunch to families program. The Fresh Fork is helping to make our lives better one box lunch at a time.”
