Supporting families just steps away from their children’s bedside

Daily Onsite Meals

Many parents are unable or unwilling to venture more than a few steps away from their sick child. COVID-19’s impact on restaurants and existing barriers to food access in Oakland has only exacerbated food insecurity experienced by families with children at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. Our new daily lunch and dinner service relieves some of the financial burden and stress our families have to bear.

Overnight Family Housing

Thanks to partnerships with organizations like Veritas and Apartment List, RMHC Bay Area offers overnight housing in Oakland that ensures families can access lifesaving care for their children at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. More than a roof over their heads, these alternative housing accommodations alleviate the stress of finding a place to stay while far from home and allow parents to be stronger partners in their children’s critical care.

While we request a nominal donation of $10 per night, no family is turned away due to inability to pay.

Since its inception, Happy Wheels has served tens of thousands of families, and demand for the service continues to grow. The success of Happy Wheels has captured the interest of Ronald McDonald House chapters throughout the world to share this special level of comfort and care while in the hospital.
