22 May Board Member Spotlight: How Family, Heritage, and Heart Led Elaine Weiner to RMHC Bay Area
For Elaine Weiner, giving back is a value that has been instilled in her since childhood, shaped by her cultural heritage and experiences. From a young age, Elaine was deeply influenced by her Chinese American family’s traditions, prompting a lasting commitment to care for others.

Those values were put to the test in 2010 when her father experienced a sudden stroke. Elaine made numerous trips between Hong Kong and Taiwan to be by his side.
“What struck me then was how much of the recovery process involved the entire family,” she shared. “The hospital welcomed all caregivers and made several accommodations, making it easier to provide care, but I later learned that is not the case everywhere.”
While researching similar options in the United States, Elaine discovered Ronald McDonald House Charities, and she immediately felt a connection to the mission.
Elaine recently joined the RMHC Bay Area Board, and as mom of three young kids, she is thrilled to support this great cause. She knows firsthand the difference support can make when families are going through medical crises.
One program Elaine is especially passionate about is the RMHC Bay Area’s Feed the Love In-Hospital Meal Program, which provides meals to families staying at the House. “I grew up in a home where love was shown through shared meals,” she said. “I know that caregivers aren’t always able to nourish themselves the way they need to.”
I’m so humbled by the opportunity to serve this community. My role is small compared to the families and staff who support them, but I hope to raise more awareness in the Bay Area about their heroic efforts and the impact of RMHC. – Elaine Weiner, Board of Directors, RMHC Bay Area
RMHC Bay Area welcomes Elaine to our board with appreciation for her deep understanding, emotional approach, and valuable cultural insights that will benefit our community. Her life experiences demonstrate the universal bonds that unite us through family love and assistance, and the conviction that no one should face medical struggles alone.
