20 Dec Mission Moment — In Remission, Helping Others
Posted on Dec 20
Collette’s full-circle moment — from patient to donor.
Dec. 20 — “People donated gifts to me while I was in the hospital, so I wanted to donate for others.” — Collette
Collette, 9, is in remission after battling cancer for over 2 years. When planning her birthday, making sure other kids in the hospital had gifts for the holidays was on the top of her list. Her family and friends donated gifts to our #ComfortAndJoy drive to provide support to others like she had while she was in treatment. Collette shares, “I had a birthday party and me and my big sister decorated this box for people to put presents in. . . It was a Minecraft party, so there’s Minecraft characters on it.”
Sara, Collette’s mom shares that due to COVID-19 restrictions in May 2020 that, “when she rang the bell at the end of her treatment it was just me there, her dad wasn’t allowed to be there.” It was challenging for their family not being able to cheer Collette on in person through her most major treatment milestone.
We are incredibly moved by Collette’s kindness and drive to give back to other kids in need. You are an inspiration, thank you, Collette!
