Oakland Programs

Supporting families just steps away from their children’s bedside

Overnight Family Housing

The Larry C. Tripplett Sr. Family Center at RMH Oakland is officially open for both overnight stays and day pass families. Both programs serve families with critically ill children being treated at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. RMH Oakland’s 7-bedroom House provides highly specialized housing and services for some of the hospital’s sickest and most medically vulnerable children.

Thanks to partnerships with organizations like Veritas and Apartment List, Ronald McDonald House Charities Bay Area can provide additional overnight housing for families. More than a roof over their heads, these alternative housing accommodations alleviate the stress of finding a place to stay while far from home and allow parents to be stronger partners in their children’s critical care.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, families can stay at RMHC Bay Area at no cost. Our Grateful Family program allows families to pay it forward and donate any amount to support future RMHC families.

Daily Onsite Meals

Many parents are unable or unwilling to venture more than a few steps away from their sick child. Existing barriers to food access in Oakland have only exacerbated food insecurity experienced by families with children at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. Our new daily lunch and dinner service relieves some of the financial burden and stress our families have to bear.

Every weekday, Feed the Love lunches and dinners are served to families in the hospital. You can go to our Ronald McDonald House team at the Family Resource & Information Center or email info@rmhcbayarea.org for more information.

Happy Wheels

Families at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, including siblings, often wait long hours or even days without leaving the hospital or their child’s bedside. Happy Wheels volunteers move throughout the hospital offering refreshments and snacks, toiletries, and age-appropriate toys to patients, siblings, and their families.

Since its inception, Happy Wheels has served tens of thousands of families, and demand for the service continues to grow. The success of Happy Wheels has captured the interest of Ronald McDonald House chapters throughout the world to share this special level of comfort and care while in the hospital.
