“It’s not about me. It’s about the kids,” was something Brad Lyman said often. The real estate executive was a devoted RMHC Bay Area board director, known for his love of sports and family. All in all, Brad contributed and helped raise more than $47 million for Ronald McDonald House families during his 15-year tenure as a volunteer board member, fundraiser, and golf event chair.
In short, Brad was known for going “all in” for children and families facing medical crisis.
“As we look to the future, I see the opportunity to support so many more families because of the incredible network of support that Brad has helped build,” said RMHC CEO Laura Boudreau. To commemorate his legacy, friends and family are coming together to establish Brad’s Park (opening in summer 2023) — an outdoor family recreation space at Ronald McDonald House Stanford. Many are also supporting the expansion projects and initiatives he was driving at the time of his passing: our Strategic Growth Fund and establishing the very first Ronald McDonald House in Oakland.
“Brad left exactly as he would have wanted, doing what he loved, with people he loved, and after giving me the best 50 years anyone could ever ask for,” said his wife, Twinkie Lyman. During his Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year acceptance speech in 2021, Brad said, “I’m just totally blown away with what this organization has done and what it will do in the future — and so grateful for my friends and family and colleagues who joined me in supporting this cause.”

Single mom Jessica and her two children, Felix and Dottie, have been staying off-and-on at Ronald McDonald House since 2016. Felix has highly complex medical diagnoses, and his treatments require monthly hospital visits. “I know what the Ronald McDonald House means to us,” said Jessica, who created a Team RMHC fundraiser this year, completing the Oakland Marathon’s half marathon and raising more than $1,000 to help families like hers. “Ronald McDonald House is like a second home for my kids. When we go there, they feel safe. We know there are other families going through something similar, so we don’t feel quite as alone.”
