How has the pandemic changed how you lead others? I’ve really doubled down on empowering my team. There was so much to respond to — decision-making had to get faster, more distributed. We all had to get more comfortable trying, failing and course correcting. As a result, I’ve seen an incredible acceleration in learning and innovation, and have identified an emerging set of organizational leaders.
How has the pandemic changed your outlook on life and work? Now more than ever, the pandemic has me thinking about family. RMHC’s mission is about keeping families together during a health crisis.
But what happens when a health crisis keeps loved ones apart? When distance separates us from friends, co-workers, even our neighbors in the grocery store? I think we’ve all developed a new appreciation for human connection — I hope it stays with us as life moves back to normal.
What’s your strategy for getting your business back to normal after the pandemic? The shutdown happened so fast; the return will be much more deliberate. There is no magic “normal” date — we’re ramping up in phases so we do it right. This is our opportunity to let go of things that weren’t working before the pandemic, to normalize the innovative spirit that was so strong this past year. I want our new normal to be better than ever.
