Reaching Families by Their Children's Bedsides
The Happy Wheels hospitality cart serves children and families at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. Families at the hospital, including siblings, often wait long hours or even days without leaving the hospital or even their child’s bedside. Happy Wheels volunteers move throughout the hospital offering refreshments and snacks, toiletries, and age-appropriate toys to patients, siblings, and their families.
Since its inception, Happy Wheels has served tens of thousands of families at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospita atl Stanford, and demand for the service continues to grow. The success of Happy Wheels has captured the interest of Ronald McDonald House chapters throughout the world to share this special level of comfort and care while in the hospital.
Through the Child’s Bedside Program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital at Mission Bay, volunteers bring refreshments to parents and other family members staying at their children's bedsides. Our Child’s Bedside Program and hosptialisty cart reaches out to these families, who may never use the overnight House services, but who greatly appreciate any respite and comfort RMHC can provide.
